Since 1995, Tomoko Kawamoto and her husband Sei have owned this mini-chain on 13th Street. There are no flatirons to burn your hair, and your shampoo will be followed by an abbreviated Shiatsu massage. That’s how Kawamoto claims to be different from most other salons: it’s all about gentility. You can also get sleek Asian-inspired haircuts here, as well as Japanese styling products that are hard to find elsewhere.
